These four goals define the focus for the LRAA's existence: 1. To celebrate our aviation passion. The camaraderie enjoyed by aviation enthusiasts is like no other. Coming together to celebrate our common bond is an enjoyment that is truly difficult to surpass. Whether its a cook-out, a plane wash, or even a more formal event like an FAA safety seminar, flying aficionados revel in opportunities to express the pleasure they feel when engaged in their passion. The Association shall be active in encouraging and promoting events celebrating aeronautical activity. 2. To share our aviation experience. Aviation is an exciting yet demanding endeavor. Experienced masters must pass their wisdom to the fledglings if the discipline is to be carried on. The Association shall look for opportunities to encourage an abundant flow of knowledge and skill among not only current participants in aviation activities but also to educate those to whom aviation may be foreign. 3. To preserve our aviation history. The Lincoln region's history is filled with great aviation accomplishments and achievments. It is necessary that the legends be researched, rumors expunged, heros uplifted, and treasures embraced. (The LRAA logo includes an aircraft silhouette - do you know the reason this specific aircraft was chosen?) The Association shall spearhead efforts to compile a comprehensive collection reflecting moments, events, and individuals that were significant to the area's aviation history.
4. To assure our aviation future. All too often general aviation airports are forced to close or implement severe restrictions as encroaching development results in the aerodrome being too crowded to operate safely. ANSWERS TO FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS . . . Who are the members of the LRAA? How is the LRAA different? What does the LRAA provide that existing organizations donít? Is a time commitment required? How are the costs of LRAA operations financed? How do I become an LRAA member?
Everyone wanting to share in the excitement of aviation is welcome to join the LRAA. Pilots, aviation history fans, aircraft builders, mechanics, model builders, plane spotters, airport bums. All are integral parts of establishing the LRAA as an active and involved component of the region's aviation community.
Traditionally, organizations seek to assemble a collection of individuals with a narrowly defined common interest. In the aviation arena there are groups for pilots; groups for owners or builders of specific aircraft types; groups for those employed in specific occupations; groups whose members have specific societal interests; and many other classifications. While each organization serves a unique and necessary purpose they commonly operate independently, conducting their activities outside the consciousness of the others. The LRAA seeks to bring a diverse regional aviation community together, serving as the conduit through which we can become aware and share the excitement of the numerous facets of aviation that are present in our region.
The LRAAís primary goal is to provide information, encourage interaction and cooperation, and increase the overall involvement of the area's aviation enthusiasts. It serves to enhance the local aviation community by extending the reach of each individual group. Through the LRAA website and other communications, LRAA participants will learn of interesting events happening throughout the region. The LRAA will serve as the coordinator for major activities that are beyond the scope and capability of any single individual or organization. There will also be opportunities to become involved in LRAA-sponsored events during the year such as an annual Members Meeting & Celebration gala and our flagship public event, the Lincoln Airport Day & Airshow. Another benefit of the LRAA's focus on communications is the ability to get information to the region's aviation supporters quickly. Establishing this network now, while we enjoy a superb relationship with the airport operator, neighborhoods, and general public, will enable us to be proactive in assuring our rights and freedoms to enjoy aviation activities are protected. In this way we may be able to avoid the experiences of other airport organizations who found themselves mired in destructive, adversarial engagements.
Much of the LRAA's activities take place in cyberspace utilizing the website and electronic communications, mediums that you may view at your own pace from any internet connection. Additionally, a quarterly newsletter will be posted on the LRAA website. We hope you will use the information LRAA provides to identify and attend those events that are most interesting to you. Obviously, most activities are much more meaningful - and more fun - if you are there in person.
The majority of the LRAA's operational expenses are covered through member dues ($20/year) and other donations. While membership in the LRAA is not a requirement to participate in LRAA activities, only members are eligible to vote in association elections and benefit from special member's only discounts and opportunities. The LRAA is recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation and contributions may be tax deductible.
